We get our electricity from Great Lakes Energy here in northwestern Michigan. As a result of recent state legislation, power companies are required to have Green/Renewable energy sources comprise a percentage of their power production. Great Lakes Energy has posted a video that discusses their efforts towards increasing Wind Energy production in our state.

A Kite's Eye View
Found this video of a stack of Speed Wings. If you've never heard of or flown a Speed Wing, basically they are a very simple design kite, but very durable, meant to be flown in high winds...oh by the way, they can fly at over 100mph. Take a ride with this kite...

Great Lakes Wind Energy
Michigan has tremendous Wind Power potential, and given the condition of our state economy, we need to capitalize on it; thankfully our governor (Granholm) foresaw the need to diversify our state economy years ago. Though the pain of auto industry collapse hurts us disproportionately, the ground work has already been laid for Green and Knowledge Economy to replace it. Wind power companies are sprouting up all around Michigan - and we have the industrial backbone to scale up production.
Wind sports like kiteboarding is also fast growing in popularity and is not only a great sport, but is a great ambassador for Wind Power. When you feel the power of the wind in your hands, it;s truly an amazing feeing...like surfers talking about the mystical power of waves.

Hi all! I'm really excited to start this new blog. I plan to use this new blogging area as a place to share cool pictures and videos related to kiting and kiteboarding from around the world, as well as kiting and kiteboarding news and information from the Third Coast region.
I'd like to kick off this blog with one of my favorite videos from Tom Bourdeau (HQ Kites). He's one of the pioneers of kiteboarding, and he talks about what kiteboarding is, particularly as it pertains to kiteboarding on snow.
